Garden-Assisted Learning

Pony Power’s Farm in the Forest garden is the setting for this program where participants are encouraged to touch, taste and smell as many things as possible!

Activities include:

  • exploring all aspects of gardening, from planting to harvesting

  • sensory scavenger hunts

  • watering, weeding and plant care

  • art-making

  • learning about plants, irrigation systems and composting

Age: 6 years through adulthood

Lesson duration: 30 minutes

Semesters offered: Spring (Mar-June), Summer (Jul-Aug) and Fall (Sept-Dec)

Potential benefits: Increased understanding of and connection to food sources; fostering healthy food choices; exposure to new tastes; satisfaction from witnessing agricultural cycles, from planting to harvest; caring for plants over an extended period of time; culinary ideas to apply at home; comfort from rhythm and routine; exercise; life and vocational skills such as following instructions, commitment and follow-through.

Fees: Summer: $240 for 6 lessons; Fall and Spring: $480 for 12 lessons
